Breaking News: The Blade has officially solved Ohio’s statewide leadership crisis by reassigning Toledo’s mayor. In a recent editorial, the paper confidently concluded that the solution to Ohio’s future is simple: move the Toledo mayor onto the Acton ticket. Just a tidy political reassignment. Why build new leadership when you can simply rotate familiar names upward?

In a recent editorial, the paper confidently concluded that the solution to Ohio’s future is simple: move the Toledo mayor onto the Acton ticket. Just a tidy political reassignment. Why build new leadership when you can simply rotate familiar names upward?

To be clear, the mayor does not technically have to resign to join the Acton ticket. That said, we would be more than happy to see him do so. After all, nothing reinforces confidence in local leadership quite like immediately setting sights on the next office after winning re-election.

The résumé logic behind this recommendation is also impressive. Four terms as county treasurer. Three terms as mayor. Naturally, the next step is lieutenant governor. Ohio politics still believes deeply in the internal career ladder. Stay long enough and experience becomes entitlement.

Perhaps the mayor could also bring along one of his signature accomplishments: removing term limits. If it worked so well at the local level, why not expand the model statewide? Consistency matters.

Joining the Acton ticket would also clear up any remaining confusion. This is not about fresh leadership or new ideas. It is about the continued advancement of a career politician, thoughtfully repackaged as public service. Stability has a look, and it looks very familiar.

One thing we did find curious: with all the editorial concern about experience, the Blade never suggested a lieutenant governor pick for Vivek Ramaswamy. Apparently, unsolicited advice is selective.

We share this not out of outrage, but clarity. Ohio deserves open debate, competitive elections, and leadership chosen by voters, not quietly anointed through editorials.
